For our NHD project, we chose Genghis Khan. We chose Genghis Khan because he seemed like a wise and noble leader to his people and he left a lasting legacy. We looked into Genghis Khan before we began our project and found that he alone did some noteworthy things. When we began our project, we barely knew anything about Genghis Khan so we wanted to learn more about him. Though this is true for most of the people on the list provided by http://100leaders.org, we chose Genghis Khan because we wanted a unique topic that we thought not many other people were going to do. We figured that most people were going to choose the commonly known topics, such as Adolf Hitler or Martin Luther King, Jr. so we thought outside of the box and found Genghis Khan.
After we decided on a topic for our project, we conducted some research about it. Mainly, we split off into our own ways of doing research. I (Jake) found some documentaries and a bunch of articles. Luc found a documentary and a lot of pictures but also found a whole book! Through this, we made sure that everything we used was all documented and put into our bibliography. We both had fairly equal roles in researching for our topic; we both found a lot of info and this helped us out greatly for preparing our presentation.
For our presentation category, we chose to do a website. We chose the website over the other categories because for each of the other categories, we found that a website was ideal, since us both had experience using Weebly for STEM lab. On the category selection sheet, there were questions about each category to help you pick what you wanted to do. When we answered the questions for the website, we found that we answered yes to all of the questions, so we decided to do a website. We created our website by first following the directions on how to link your website to NHD, and then we worked on adding the content. The roles in creating our website were again fairly equal; Luc added most of the actual info and the pictures, while I added the things like the annotated bibliography, this process paper, and embedded a short documentary on Genghis Khan.
Genghis Khan fits into the theme of the year because he was a leader and he left a legacy. This was because he both led and united the Mongols to create the largest land empire to date. He was one of the greatest military tacticians, so he used brutal tactics to conquer and unite Mongolia, attempting to rule the world, and bring an era of peace. He invented a many new innovations that would give them a big edge over their opponents, he left a lasting legacy through time by creating the world’s largest and empire to date, and he heavily populated Mongolia, being related to 10% of all Mongolians today.
